Tamale hosts Ghana Rugby’s U-15 Boys Sevens Tournament 2021[PHOTOS)

The Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) has successfully held the boy’s category of the U-15 Seven’s Tournament at the Sakasaka Community Park in Tamale.

Despite the deadly Coronavirus frustrating businesses and schools around the globe as well as sporting activities, the Ghana Rugby is organizing these tournaments in all the zones of the Union (GARA, CENTWEST and NRRA).

The tournament dubbed ‘Getting Into Rugby’ is the basis for growth and the aim is to introduce a GIR championship which will help develop players for the future.

Four teams namely Sakasaka Community, Moshie Zongo Community, Kanvile Community and Kalpohin Community participated in the competition.

The President of Northern Region Rugby Association, Ms. Inusah Rafatu who has been working with the development officer Ephraim Adjei to develop rugby in Tamale for the development and expansion of rugby across the northern zone after the tournament said that, “”It’s exciting to see the boys playing rugby with passion representing their communities with all their heart and strength.”

The match official for the tournament ware Mr Ephraim adjei, Abdul Basit Adu and Hudu Musah both practicing coaching and refereeing. At the of the day, Sakasaka Community Boys won in the boy’s competition and St. Francis with the girls.

The event according to the President and Board Chairman of Ghana Rugby was supported by Africa Rugby and Society Generale Bank.

Rafatu Inusah who was responsible for the event commended the coaches, development officers, and volunteers in their efforts to bring the boys from their various communities to participate in this tournament (Ephraim Adjei,Abdul Basit Adu, and Musah).

Mr. Mensah confirmed that GIR tournaments are planned for the foreseeable future and urged the principal organizers of these Tournament events Ms. Inusah Rafatu (Educator and Northern Region Rugby President and Zone 1 coordinator) and Mr. Steve Noi (National Coordinator) to expand the program.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Rugby Football Union understands that Covid is real, has tested more than 400 times in the past 12 months with instructions been given to observe all the Covid 19 protocols like social distancing, washing of hands, taking the vitamins (C, Zinc) to boost immunity.
